ELP’S Visit to Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service

Waiting at the reception, the alarm split the air, and in about 30 seconds, a manned fire-truck sped out of the station; to combat a fire outbreak somewhere in Lagos…

This was part of the uniqueness that greeted the ELP’s team at the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

A Fire Service where they are always prepared to switch the transition gear, as word comes.

And just as the fire alarm that warranted quick response, the Director, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye had a quick summon from higher authorities; and she had to leave us in the hands of her able team, led by Deputy Director, Mrs. Juliet Alelamole

We ran through challenges, especially on instances of delay, despite their constant state of readiness and quick take-off time.

They concurred with Environmental Lagos Platform on the need for more fire stations, and improvement on road and transport infrastructure, which are major causes of delay in arrival time.

These were issues that had gotten to the government, and the response is being covered in the amendment to the Act that established the Fire Service; by the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The angle of miscreants destroying fire equipment or inflicting injuries on personnel, onlookers crowding incident-scenes, basic individual/residential/corporate aids and responses to preventing and curbing fire outbreaks were discussed under Fire Safety awareness, which covers guided tours and other inputs.

With the perceived impact of collaborative action, the Fire and Rescue Service and Environmental Lagos Platform agreed to work together.
