Lagos Air Quality: Banana Island ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’; Akoka, Agege most polluted
The Lagos government has ranked Agege, Akoka, Ojo, and Ketu as the worst areas with air pollution.
High-brow Banana Island was adjudged as one of the most ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’ areas in Lagos.
The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) disclosed this on Thursday in an air quality index on its official X handle.
According to LASEPA, Akoka is the most polluted area in Lagos, with 124.1 air quality, followed by Agege, which has 72.1. Iba town in Ojo and the LAMATA area in Ketu come next with 70.7 and 60.6, respectively, all listed under ‘Unhealthy’.
Areas listed under the ‘Unhealthy for sensitive groups’ in the state include the Lagos Island Health Centre (52.2), UNILAG main gate (51.6), Surulere (47.4), Mende (44.8), Mushin (42.9), NIMR Yaba (37.8), Banana Island (36.9), NIMET Oshodi (36.1) and Shobayo close, Araromi (35.6).
Meanwhile, Ikotun (34.7), Egbeda and LSDPC Estate in Ebute-Metta (33.5), UNILAG Research Lab (33.0), Ikeja General Hospital Road (32.3), Oshodi (31.4), LASEPA Ikeja (29.1), Ita Elewa in Ikorodu (26.7) and Lagos Port in Apapa (25.0) are listed under ‘moderate’.
LASEPA advised Lagos residents to “make conscious choices for a cleaner and healthier city. Together, we can breathe easier. EkoCleanAir.”
