ELP Visit: The Executive Secretary, Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service

“Life is in the blood”

On the phone; pleasant and reassuring define Dr. Bodunrin Osikomaiya, which are characteristics that we joked; are needed for her line of work.

In person, you are faced with a veteran of haematology who handles an essential bio-component and leads a great team that has been saving lives via the blood bank of Lagos State.

After a great welcome, the Executive Secretary and her team gave us a bit of insight into what goes on at the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service.

They handle about 80% of the blood needs within the state; serving public and private hospitals.
It was gladdening to know that; despite offering affordable prices to others, for patients with sickle-cell, they are not charged for purchase of blood for their treatment.

We discussed some of the challenges they face in getting donors, the benefits of donating blood and the need to amplify.
This led to BTS embracing WalDo and commending ELP for the selfless initiative; which is aimed at saving lives by contributing a sizeable quota to the blood bank.
We deliberated on the project, with a resolve to work together on other noble causes.

The ES led us round the premises and we saw some of the international-standard equipment and their operations.

WalDo promo-apparel was presented to the Executive Secretary amidst a jovial session of pictures.

The visit was enlightening.
Wishing the best to Dr. Bodunrin Osikomaiya and her team, we left with a determination to help ramp up publicity so that more Lagosians will contribute to the blood bank and help save lives.
WalDo is aimed at that, be part of it.
