More often than not; sharp practices during construction, increase in rent, etc, are blamed on the government by developers and property owners.
They claim; there are unending financial demands from government agencies in the built sector; that eventually lead to construction compromises and transference of costs to tenants.
The relevant agencies will point to attempts to circumvent the required process.
The back-and-forth can be niggling; with the built sector bearing the brunt and Lagosians suffering.

It was a delight to find out there is an adjudicator called Lagos State Physical Planning and Building Control Appeals Committee, and since Environmental Lagos Platform is about making Lagos better, we sought an audience with them.

Despite their typical busy schedule, they created a few minutes for ELP.

Presently chaired by the experienced Tpl. Funmi Osifuye, LASPPBCA is made up of knowledgeable ladies and gentlemen drawn from various areas of the built sector; architect, builder, town planner, surveyor, engineer, representatives of Physical Planning and Urban Development, representatives of the people, lawyer, etc

In its seven years of existence, the Appeals Committee has come to be known for credible resolutions; resulting in laudable recognition by the law courts.

The Chairman took time to guide us through the process of filing, making it clear that an appeal can be filed at any point of construction by any of the parties. However, the Committee does not handle land-titling issues.

We opined that, the housing deficit in Lagos State will not will itself away and all hands must be on deck to tackle it, thus ELP will be in the forefront of publicity for the Lagos State Physical Planning and Building Control Appeals Committee, as they are doing a valuable job and are very crucial to state development.

We discussed WalDo (our blood-donation project) and the Committee gave their support to the project.

The Chairman received his sash amidst pictures and pleasantries, and we departed; thanking them for their time and wishing them well.
